NOTE: This is an evolving, unsettled debate. No one should be ridiculed for having a different opinion from someone else. Respect different points of view please, even though you may see humor and irony in them.

* WOMAN

THE CONUNDRUM

" Do we refer to a very masculine lesbian woman as a man, or do we still consider her a woman? Do we refer to a very feminine man, who wishes  to be a woman, as a man or a woman? These are two of the major questions our generation has to answer. "

(Note: Biological Determinism is the theory that one's body determines one's fate, i.e. that a body which produces babies and milk is destined to procreate and feed others while a body which substitutes muscles for procreative powers is destined to subdue the earth and subdue others with those muscles.)

  • 1.  When they cannot open the jar of pickles, they get emotional. Sometimes crying comes with these emotions.
  • 2.  There are many men, and even some women, who think a woman's place is in the home. A real woman must be fueled by comments like that. She takes a negative and demeaning point of view and uses it as motivation to succeed.
  • 3.  Women will always have compassion. tolerance and understanding, when it comes to their family's needs.
  • 4.  And then, independence is important for women . . . Many women feel that is the one important way to get the same social status as men.
  • 5.  A modern woman should be able to diversify taking on all the roles of of traditional man such as holding a job and "bring home the bacon."
  • 6.  I still firmly believe that women are kinder in nature than men, always have been and always will be.
  • 7.  A woman is defined as someone who refuses to be held back because of her physical features, values her freedoms, and still takes pride in being a mother.
  • 8.  The main great ability of woman is to be independent and support herself without needing to rely on a man.
  • 9.  A woman today is one who has resources to do things herself. She is able to do any of the tasks that males can do, even if not of the same quality.
  • 10.  A woman should be comfortable with herself. She can accomplish this by staying home, going out and working, not getting married, or choosing not to be a woman any more.
  • 11.  Women today have a stronger willpower than they did back then, they are ready to take charge of their own lives without being told what they can and cannot do.
  • 12.  The role women play in society now is almost equal to that of a man. The public, for example, uses medicine developed by a woman, attends classes run by woman, and lives by laws that have been put into place because of women.
  • 13.  A woman in 2012 knows her place. She knows what is socially acceptable and she knows what to do to be seen. A woman is not rude, but she knows how to get her voice heard and get her point across.
  • 14.  Women still have children but are not prisoners in their own home, bound to raising kids and cooking and cleaning for their husbands.
  • 15.  A woman is more caring for others because she doesn't think about herself as much as others.  Some of the women I know take care of elders, friends and other family members when they are sick. She takes in what others are feeling.
  • 16.  Now, women determine what they want to do, how they want to do it, and when they want to do it. They take no orders from anyone.
  • 17.  If she is single then she has a part-time job to make some money, but she also has a practically full-time job trying to flaunt her body to men and appear as eye candy.
  • 18.  In 1930 women spent on average 44 hours a week in the kitchen, says the ers.usda.gov. Every husband and child expected to have a meal from their mother. In the year 2012 things have changed :  cnn.com says 40% of men cook for their families.
  • 19.  . . . the definition of a woman in the twenty-first century should be: a woman knows how to love, has the potential to be a worthy mother, and puts her husband and children before herself.
  • 20.  Feminists groups are all over the country now and are working harder than ever , but it's going to take a long time to get women to be as equal as men.  If you look at the definitions of the two, you can clearly see that women are still the maids and sex objects . . .
  • 21.  She is willing to do what he asks of her. She manages the house by getting the kids to school and taking care of them. She cooks and cleans continuously and goes to work. She always puts her family first just as the man does.  She is always sexy.
  • 22.  Females in 2012 are pressured into being someone who they are not on a daily basis . . .Women are judged on how they dress, how they wear their hair, and how they do their make-up. Their hair, body, skin and face have to be flawless with no imperfections, otherwise they will be criticized.
  • 23.  A trait that is prominent in all women is faithfulness. Without this a stigma may mark them which would surely repel any opportunity for settling down and starting a family.
  • 24.   . . . I would define a woman as an independent, caring, hard worker, a definition which would not have been the same in the early 1900's.

THE CONUNDRUM

  • 1.  Men need to always be able to take the lid off a pickle jar if it is stuck.
  • 2.    A man must be willing to accept the cold hard truth. He may not be as important in the world as some women. However, if a man can accept the reformed hierarchy he can still be a proud man. For a true man does not have to be the best there is. In fact, a real man is much less than  the best. A real man is humble and proud.
  • 3.  A man should be able to come home after working all day and be able to protect and be brave for his family. He is strong, no matter what comes his way. He won't break down in front of his family.
  • 4.  I think the most important definition of men is responsibility. And another point is calmness. A man cannot be too impatient.
  • 5.  The hunt becomes a hunt for something more elusive than a deer, it becomes the hunt for his own worth, a place in which he can do what he can to improve the world.
  •  6.  . . . men aren't as cruel today as they have been in the past.  There are accounts of seemingly heartless men in countless books, videos, newspaper articles, etc. Males today are more compassionate as opposed to males of the past.
  • 7.  A man is defined as someone who contributes as a provider, is a father to his children, and is a respectful husband.
  • 8.  The great thing about about this era is that there isn't as distinct a role for a man to play so he can be anything he wants to be.
  • 9.  One thing that makes a man is his ability to take control. This doesn't mean he has to be controlling at all times, or by any means bossy, but he has to be able to step up and lead others
  • 10.  . . . in simplest terms, it used to mean that a man was someone with male parts. Now there are surgeries that can contradict that definition. Also, the roles that a man would have in the home are different. A man can stay at home and take care of the house and kids while the wife goes and makes the money.
  • 11.  Men of the 21st Century have the natural instinct to be protective, whether it is over themselves or their loved ones.
  •  12.  But what has changed drastically is a woman's dependence on a man. Therefore my definition of a man is shaped in some ways from my definition of what a woman is  . . . Men are, for the most part, genetically stronger and more capable than women and that's something that time will never change.
  • 13.  The first problem we come across is deciding who is, and who isn't, a man . . .Our generation has started to accept gay people, and it's gotten to the extent that we can't tell who is and isn't a man. Do we refer to a very masculine lesbian woman as a man, or do we still consider her a woman? Do we refer to a very feminine man, who wishes  to be a woman, as a man or a woman? These are two of the major questions our generation has to answer.
  • 14.   The 2012 males are more sensitive. They see the struggle in their home and help. Men in 2012 can cry and show emotion and sensitivity without being looked down upon or judged.
  • 15.  A definition of a man in 2012 is someone who is arrogant, has strong opinions and is more physical. A lot of men in politics, government and business think they are always right in all situations. Men are less likely to listen to others' opinions and relationships are not as important to them as being right.
  • 16.  20th Century men held their feelings inside and refused to be seen shedding a tear, because it made them look like a girl.  Now, a man cries more than ever, whether they are tears of joy or tears of sadness. A man is also more domestic than he used to be . . . cooking, or cleaning, or maybe even doing both.
  • 17.  A man with or without a family must provide food and shelter for himself and his loved ones no matter the cost.
  • 18.  A stereotypical man of the year 2012 through America's perspective is seen as the provider of the family, the lawn EXPERT, and the dictator of the household.
  • 19.  A man knows how to love and protect, knows the difference between what is important and what isn't and is determined to share his life with a woman who has the same potential in supporting a family as he does.
  • 20.  Men are . . . seen as the superior of their relationship and they are supposed to do more work than the women.
  • 21.  A protective man is always looking out for the people he loves and putting them first. He makes sure his woman is always proper. He would quickly beat a guy for even looking at her wrong or saying something offensive. A hard working man always gives his family what they need.
  • 22.  It seems like men tend to think they always have to have something going on or always have to be doing something, whether it be sports, work, projects, etc.  It seems like they have to be doing something or they are considered lazy.
  • 23.  A man without a great work ethic can barely even call himself a man these days. The foundation for everything a man wants to be while growing up starts with hard work.  Success is the word for this common goal.
  • 24.   . . .he would be defined as a hard worker, a provider, and a protector of his family.

  • Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed.
  • Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.
  • Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.
  • Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dustcloth over the tables.
  • During the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
  • Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet.
  • Be happy to see him.
  • Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.
  • Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.
  • Don't greet him with complaints and problems.
  • Don't complain if he's late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work.
  • Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie him down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
  • Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
  • Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
  • A good wife always knows her place.

Good Wife's Guide

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "Good Wife's Guide" is a magazine article rumored to have been published in the May 13, 1955 issue of Housekeeping Monthly, describing how a good wife should act, containing material that reflects a very different role assignment from contemporary American society. The text and supposed scan of the article have been widely circulated via email.[1] Lack of confirming evidence has cast significant doubt on its origins.[1]

[edit]Authenticity

Investigations propose that the guide may be a hoax. According to snopes.com, the wording "The Advertising Archives" located on the right side of the image suggests a fraud, since the Archives itself was not started until 1990.[1][2] Additionally, the image used is claimed[1] to be from a 1957 cover of John Bull magazine.[3] The "Good Wife" version of this image appears to be cropped just below where the textbox containing the words "WOMAN AT THE WHEEL" appeared on the John Bull cover image. Finally, when viewed with increased contrast, square boxes are seen around all the listed points. This would only be made if created digitally and then selectively copied into the seen "magazine" format. One source claims that the text of this article has been circulating since at least the 1980s via fax. Others have claimed that the article is real. However there was no magazine called Housekeeping Monthly, also the fact that the article mentions "make him a fire" questions its authenticity, even in 1950 many houses didnt have open fires.[4]
